A Historic Venue in the Heart of Memory Grove Park
Memorial House is one of Salt Lake City’s most cherished historic venues, blending timeless architecture with a legacy of community connection. Nestled within Memory Grove Park, the property has welcomed generations of Utahns for weddings, celebrations, corporate events, and nonprofit gatherings. Every event held here helps preserve not only the story of Memorial House itself, but also historic places across the state.

The Memorial House Story
The land that is now Memory Grove Park was set aside as a city park in 1902, and in the 1920s, it was designated as a memorial park to honor American soldiers. The women of the Salt Lake Chapter of the Service Star Legion spearheaded the effort, creating the remarkable place Utahns still cherish today.

Memorial House began its life around 1890 as a simple stable and storage shed. In 1926, the Service Star Legion transformed it with the help of renowned architects Hyrum Pope and Harold Burton. The remodel introduced a graceful Georgian-style façade, dormer windows, and French doors, giving the building its elegant character. Under the Legion’s care, Memorial House quickly became a beloved setting for weddings, receptions, and community luncheons.

Over time, additions enhanced its versatility: the Garden Room in 1953 and the east patio in 1974. Yet after the Legion’s lease ended in 1984, the building stood empty for a decade, falling into disrepair.
Preservation & Renewal
In 1994, Preservation Utah, a statewide nonprofit dedicated to protecting historic places, raised the funds to restore Memorial House in partnership with Salt Lake City Corporation. The effort saved this landmark from decline and reopened it to the public as a meeting, event, and reception center.

Since then, Memorial House has continued its tradition as a gathering place for generations, while also serving as a symbol of preservation in action. By booking an event here, guests don’t just enjoy a beautiful historic venue—they become part of the story of keeping Utah’s past alive.
